A lifelong cyclist, Sue Ellen is driven by a vision of connected communities, climate-friendly transportation, recreation, and economic opportunity, linking Auburn, Brunswick, Cumberland, Durham, Falmouth, Freeport, Lewiston, Lisbon, New Gloucester, North Yarmouth, Portland, Pownal, Topsham, and Yarmouth. An active advocate for bikers and pedestrians in Maine, Sue Ellen is a founding member of the Maine Trail Coalition, where she serves on the rail until trail work team. She has also served as trail council chair and board member for the East Coast Greenway and as chair and board member for the Bicycle Coalition of Maine. Sue Ellen has also contributed to a number of community design projects related to bike and pedestrian infrastructure in the Portland area. She looks forward to fostering a culture of biking and walking beyond Yarmouth. “When contiguous towns work together for uninterrupted, traffic separated bikeways and paths, we all win in terms of economy, health, and climate.”

Economist and former Maine State Senator Dick Woodbury of Yarmouth has served on governing boards for East Coast Greenway Alliance, Maine Trails Coalition, and many advisory groups in relation to Maine’s economy. His passion for off-road, safe-from-traffic bike trails began as a bike-to-work commuter in the 1990s and continued as a newly-elected state legislator. In 2003, he introduced LD 1263, Resolve To Promote Construction of Off-road Bike and Walking Paths along the Busiest Commuting Corridors of the State. His efforts continued as a biking-vacation traveller, lead author of the Maine Active Transportation Arterials Plan, and most recently, as co-founder of the Casco Bay Trail Alliance.

Emma lives in Portland’s East Deering neighborhood, close to the southern terminus of the Casco Bay Trail. One of her favorite pursuits is exploring trails throughout Maine with her husband and dog, and she looks forward to traveling on the Casco Bay Trail to points north of Portland.

Nancy Grant, Director

Nancy brings 25 years of experience advocating for safer biking and walking in Maine, with roles that include executive director of the Bicycle Coalition of Maine, development director at Portland Trails, and member of the Maine Trails Advisory Committee. An avid cyclist, hiker, and skier, Nancy is a firm believer in the benefits of active transportation and the need for dedicated bike/pedestrian spaces that allow more people access to safe transportation and outdoor recreation. A Portland resident who has also called Cumberland and North Yarmouth home, Nancy also looks forward to the CBT as a valuable connector for many Maine communities.

Martha Leggat, Director

Devoted to sustainable living, education, and outdoor activity, Martha brings energy and passion to her work at CBTA. She lends insights and expertise from a number of roles, including including former chair and member of the MSAD #51 Board of Directors, board member of Maine Organic Farmer’s and Gardeners Association, and education coordinator at Growing to Give. A North Yarmouth resident, Martha also has extensive teaching experience. For her, the Casco Bay Trail is all about the three Cs: community, connection, and climate-friendly transportation.

Sarah Russell, Director

A community organizer and activist with a passion for the outdoors, Sarah brings experience as a member of the board of directors on organizations that include Maine Conservation Voters, Chebeague & Cumberland Land Trust, Girls on the Run Maine, and Bowdoin College Polar Bear Athletic Fund. Devoted to helping others stay fit and continue to be active outdoors, Sarah runs a strength and endurance coaching business. A resident of Cumberland, she is eager to see the Casco Bay Trail provide carbon-free transit and connect local communities.
