Good news! The public hearing for LD 511—a bill to authorize the Casco Bay Trail from Portland to Auburn—is scheduled for March 4, at 1 PM, and written testimony for the bill can be submitted now. Please take a minute on this snowy day to submit your testimony, with instructions below!
Imagine walking, biking, or using a wheelchair on a traffic-separated, multi-use path from Portland to Auburn. Passing LD 511 would make that possible. Submitting testimony is the best way to show our elected representatives the huge community support for the trail.
Use this sample testimony (or write your own short statement of support):
I live in _____, and I urge the Transportation Committee to vote in support of LD 511. An interim trail from Portland to Auburn would improve public health, protect the environment, connect to public transit, and provide options for people who don’t drive, or simply want to drive less. Please vote “ought to pass.”

Thank you for supporting the Casco Bay Trail. We’ve come a long way in recent years and are so excited for next steps if we can win approval for the trail.
What else can I do?
- Recruit two, five, or more people to submit testimony. The more people who support the bill, the better chance it will pass!
- If you can come to Augusta on March 4 to support the bill, please let us know at info@cascobaytrail.org. We have plans!
- If you haven’t yet signed our letter of support, please sign it now. More than 500 people have already signed!
- Finally, the public hearing for the Maine Department of Transportation bill, LD 30, is also on March 4, and would authorize an interim trail from Portland to Yarmouth. You can also submit written testimony in support of LD 30 – and encourage the committee to amend LD 30 to authorize the trail all the way to Auburn.
Thank you!
